Platform – Modelling

Platform

For the platform area I started off with the platform itself , I made a very simple shape with very little geometry

Overpass

then i started working on the overpass. as this is one of the main pieces on the platform besides the train. The shape was very simple

I created the walkway on top first then branched out towards the stairs area. Having the mannequin for this part was very important as the player would have to walk up, through and down this.

For the chain link alone, the walkway I started out with was a simple tube mesh, then duplicated each side. until it looked like this.

I cleaned up the geometry and joined the meshes, which then I could use array to make into a fence

Platform Bars and Wires

next were the bars and wires that would help fill out the empty spaces

I started off with the bars that would be in between the tracks; the H shape of the bar was used throughout all the bars in this area.

Next were the bars along the actual platform itself; I needed one going up and another on the ceiling

While still keeping the design simple, I added some larger areas on the top and bottom and also added some bolts.

I also added some flatter bars along the walls to make it less bare

I also added some ceiling bars on top of the tracks, as some of the references showed it; this helped fill out the scene a lot and make the area look more cohesive

I also made some pipes and wires to lay along the middle of the tracks

I made sure that these were tileable when modelling so I could easily use an array to spread it along cleanly.

Tracks

For the tracks, I separated them into three parts: the ground, bar and track pieces. Following the reference images, I tried my best to recreate this using very simple geometry. I made one block and then used an array to line across the platform.

Tunnel

The tunnel itself was also simple geometry. I made one side of the tunnel using a cube and removed all but 2 faces, then bevelled it to create this flat, curved dome. I did make a few adjustments to the shape of the tunnel throughout the project, not knowing if I preferred a more square or circular shape. I ended up sticking with this rounded square to help the wires and pipes I made fit better.

For the pipes and wires and separated them into five different parts. I used the pipe and bunched wires I already made and duplicated a few. I also added some hanging wires to make it look a bit more messy. The box would be the light source inside the tunnels, to which I would add in Unreal later. Same thing as before. I made these tileable so I could easily use an array to spread this out.

Ceiling

For the ceiling, I separated the mesh on top so I could texture these two differently, as I saw in my references the area above the tracks (area 1) had a more brick-like texture and the area above the platform (area 2) had a more concrete/peeling-paint texture.
