Ticket Machine
Because I separated the meshes by colours, it made UV and texturing very easy. I started off with a metal base and then layered grunge masks.
For the different coloured textures on the screen, I used a plastic material which I thought matched the references. I used a black mask in areas where the texts would go on.
For the text, I chose Dubai Medium, as it looks the most similar to the font I saw on my references. It was a bit difficult at first trying to figure out how to actually get the text on and adjust it properly.
Turnstiles
For the turnstiles it was a bit difficult to UV the big one, as there were so many edges and the geometry was a bit off after bevelling. I had to retopologise a bit while marking my seams to help the workflow. The smaller turnstiles were very straightforward, so not many issues there.
In substance I followed the image references, colouring the big turnstiles and the trailing area a dark, slightly desaturated navy blue. I used the metal one again as the base layer in the blue colour. For the dirt and grime I used grunge masks once again but focused on the edges more; I wanted to show the metal being scratched into the original silverish colour underneath.
Information Booth
For the booth itself the texturing was pretty straightforward, using a base material with grunge masks layered on. I also added the blue that was shown in the references in the same colour as the blue on the walls and train. I also wanted to add more depth on edges, so I painted on some height maps.
The window took the longest to get right. I followed a very detailed and helpful video by Robot Army on YouTube. The video helped me understand a lot of different functions within Substance, especially with adding smart masks in only certain areas. being very intentional with what’s being put in.
I used this same method on the glass cabinet in the back of the booth; with the black mask, I was able to create the metal texture surrounding the glass of the cabinet. The details on the locker and file cabinet were all hand-painted on using height maps as well.
